Tagara Details : The herb Tagara (known as Indian Valerian or Valeriana wallichi) is a perennial herb, found in plenty in Western Himalayas in India, and Pakistan and Afghanisthan.
It is commonly called Tagara, Tagar, Bala-tagra, Sugandh-bala in Ayurveda .It is considered an important medicinal herb in Ayurveda, and is mentioned in all scriptures of Ayurveda.
The plant is also used as an external application for treating eczema , ulcers and other skin diseases. The roots of this plant are harvested in the autumn season after the leaves fall down and the roots are dried. Care should be taken while drying because excess heat destroys the active ingredients of the root. The root is dried effectively at temperatures around 40 degrees. Tagara is bitter, sweet, pungent and astringent in taste, and alleviates the vata, pitta and kapha doshas.
