A Mala bracelet is very similar to a rosary as far as function. A rosary is designed to keep track of certain types of prayers as you say them, and the Mala bracelet is designed to assist the wearer in keep track of the number of mantras he or she repeats. This bracelet is used in Buddhism and Hinduism; however, during the twentieth century Mala bracelets also started becoming fashion statements. Sometimes they are simply referred to as "prayer beads" instead of Mala bracelets. The bracelet mala can be used throughout the day as an aid in becoming centered or focused, as a reminder of one's purpose, a ready companion for prayer or contemplation.
